Theology and Racialized Policing Digitized Course

Welcome to a journey of enlightenment, empowerment, and action. This course is designed for faith leaders, community advocates, and all those who are committed to advancing justice and equity, especially within communities of color affected by the systemic challenges of policing, mass incarceration, and racial disparities. Through a series of thought-provoking sessions, led by esteemed experts, participants will delve into the intersections of theology, the criminal legal system, and the power of faith-driven advocacy.

Overview of Course:

This comprehensive course presented by Sojourners and Howard University School of Divinity explores the critical intersections of theology, policing, mass incarceration, and racial disparities within the criminal legal system. Designed specifically for faith leaders serving communities of color, this course aims to introduce clergy and faith leaders with theory and practical ministry approaches to address biases within the justice system.

Our goal is to empower participants to effectively respond to the urgent needs of communities of color, both physically and spiritually, especially in situations where policy solutions fall short. The ultimate goal is for faith leaders to take what they have gained back to their communities to be first responders of faith and justice.

Participants will delve into these complex issues at their own pace, guided by the insights of renowned scholar-practitioners. Each session is structured around an introduction, a main presentation, and a contextual response from resident scholar Dr. Harold Dean Trulear.

Building on the success of previous theology and racialized policing cohorts, this iteration promises a dynamic and enriched learning experience, tailored for faith leaders nationwide.
